The multiport is a compact design selector valve which allows to test the current flow rate of a single well without stopping the production. Seven or more wells can be connected to the multiport selector valve. The overall production is gathered in the valve body and headed to the main production line through the outlet flange. Time by time the selector position may be changed to intercept the flow of a single well; the fluid, isolated from the production of the other wells, is conveyed to the test line in order to measure flow rate and liquid/gas/solid fractions before being redirected to the main production line. In the most common configuration, the multiport selector valve is equipped with 8 inlet ports, one of which is blind and only used for valve tightness test puroposes or to connect multiple valves. Special executions may be designed a different port number up to sixteen inlets.
Multiport selector valves are installed in metering skids when space and weight saving are a key point. The standard manifold needs eight on-off ball valves for the seven wells and the test line, seven three-way valves to switch between the wells and an on-off ball valve for the production line; in addition, to ensure the skid remote control, the standard manifold needs at least seven actuators. The multiport skid only requires eight on-off ball valves for inlet and test ports, an on-off ball valve for the outlet port and a single actuator to manage the well test. Hence, compared to the standard manifold, a skid equipped with a multiport selector valve is much smaller and lighter.
Multiport selector valves can be designed to withstand the most severe operating conditions, properly selecting materials between carbon & stainless steel, DSS, SDSS or exotic alloys. Seats can be chosen between soft and metal to metal in order to ensure long service life with clean or abrasive media.
